If you are considering fitting garden decking you will come across three options. In this article we will explain about each option of garden decking. These three belong to two major groups, wood and composite.
Composite decking - Comprised from a combination of wood, PVC and plastic, composite is particularly popular in residential gardens where the emphasis is on low up-keeping. Low quality composite decking tends to include more plastic which makes the deck look very artificial. It requires very little care and can last up to 25 years.
Hardwood decking - Only a small number of selected woods are suitable for decking. If you simply take a standard Oak or Walnut woods and fitting them outdoors, the wood will last for a matter of weeks. Decking hardwood on the other hand contain special properties. These woods come from broadleaved trees and include such properties of high fire rating, natural oils and a natural resistance to insects, fungus, acids and alkalis.
Software decking - Softwood and hardwood are broad biological terms used to describe species of wood. The terms have nothing to do with the physical hardness of the wood. Softwood species from coniferous, evergreen trees. Both types of wood decking requires basic care and
a fresh coat
of oil at least once a year. On the other hand and contrary to
composite, both hardwood and softwood look natural in the garden.
