The
wildflowers are the flowers that grow wild. This means that it was not
intentionally planted or seeded but grown in certain environmental conditions.
Such wildflowers are today sold in the seed packets making the term
“wildflower” appear vague. The trend of growing such wild flowers is increasing
in flower gardening. Many people are shifting their attention towards growing
wild flowers as they require low maintenance and have less water requirements.
Although, wild flowers don’t require more attention, it is important to follow
the flower gardening tips to make your wild flower garden beautiful and attractive.

Tips:
- When you decide to plant the flower
garden full of wild flowers, you need to decide on the size of the garden.
For wild flowers you can choose the garden area of 24’X10’.
- Select the spot that receives
natural light for maximum time of the day. Make sure that this spot has
good water facilities.
- As now you have finalized the spot
for your garden, you should select the wildflower plants that grow well in
your environment. Select the plants with less maintenance and water requirements.
The best wildflowers for flower garden are daisies, cosmos, coneflowers,
blue fax, bluebonnets, black-eyed susan, sweet asylum, texas paintbrush,
foxgloves, petunias, poppy, etc.
- Remove the grass from the garden
area and clean the landscape of your garden. Select the design for your
garden and make the path for walking in between.
- Before planting the flower gardens,
prepare the garden soil carefully. Check the soil quality of your garden.
Add organic compost to the soil to increase the soil nutrient content. Mix
the natural mulch in the soil to retain the soil moisture.
- Weed control is the significant
task in any type of gardening. Natural mulch can avoid the growth of weeds
in your garden area. When you are growing wild flowers, you should distinguish
between wild flowers and weeds. You can either remove weeds by hand or
spray the herbicides to kill the weeds.
- Dig the soil up to 3 inches. Sow
the seeds and cover it with sufficient soil. Re-spray the herbicides on
the surface area to kill any weed remains on the surface.
- After you have planted the seeds,
water the complete area and keep the seeds moist until they grow few
inches tall. Light mulching with compost will help to retain the soil
moisture and keep birds from eating the meadow.
- The germination will occur within
15-20 days and the plant will blossom the first bloom after 5-6 weeks.
For
effective wildflower gardening, it is important to choose the appropriate
location for your garden and follow the gardening tips carefully. Wild flower
gardening requires less maintenance and can be grown in less available space.
